GIFT OF SCREWS

| Possible Track List | Lindsey's Words | Demo Tracks | Corporate CD Releases |
| Song Notes | Lyrics | CDR Lyric Booklet |

The album "Gift Of Screws"  was originally mentioned at the release of Fleetwood Mac's reunion album and tour "The Dance". Lindsey himself remarked in the lead up to "Bleed To Love Her"....

"This whole re-convening of these five people was kind of an organic thing, I had asked Mick to play drums on a solo album I was working on, still working on actually, as one thing lead to another and suddenly there we were in the studio saying gee this feels pretty good, isn't that weird. And that brought us to this point so we thought we do a song that we had been working on together at that time, and its called Bleed To Love Her"

These words were back in 1997 and the album was nearly as good as finished, However the release date of "Gift Of Screws" kept being pushed back and eventually the sessions were rolled into Fleetwood Mac's "Say You Will" album in 2003 and additional tracks from these sessions were released on subsequent solo albums "Under The Skin", "Gift Of Screws" and "Seeds We Sow"....

Lindsey's Words in Print regarding
GIFT OF SCREWS

Interview with Lindsey in Guitar Magazine
where the album "Gift Of Screws" is mentioned as a work in progress

Once The Dance has run its course and Fleetwood Mac completes its 40-date fall arena jaunt (it's being touted as the "20th Anniversary Rumours Tour"), Buckingham plans to finish Screws, for which he says he's reinvented his approach to songwriting, "One of the things I've been wanting to do for a while was to make one guitar - two guitars at the most - do the work of a whole track. I was also looking for a way to get the kind of energy that, say, a drum track has. So I ended up creating a tremolo-like foundation from the source tracks and got them to be very exact in their timing, which is something you really can't do if you play through an amp's tremolo setting. It creates what I call a negative space as opposed to the positive space of a snare and a kick drum. There's one track called 'Red Rover' that this all applies to, but, of course, I'm still working on it." Even with this plan of attack, Buckingham is well aware of the ever-seductive calling "to Mac, or not to Mac." "Hopefully you make the right choices," he muses. "It always feels good going through stuff you haven't heard for a while. It always sounds good initially that is, before you start tearing it apart."

Date - October 1997

Interview with Lindsey in Rolling Stone,
where his thoughts were known regarding the release of "Gift Of Screws"

So what is the status of Fleetwood Mac?
You know it's interesting, I made a joke at the show about us having worked through our own partisan politics. And I really think there is a pretty potent future for the band. In a way, Christine has really checked herself out of the situation. She sold her house in L.A. and is just residing in England. God knows what she's doing. But it kind of frees the Fleetwood Mac situation to be looked at in a fresh light and in some ways in the dynamic that Stevie and I had going before we joined the band. I think everyone's pretty up for the possibility of that and of approaching a second phase of a group much differently than just the whole epidemic of bands that were getting back together and touring and making the quick buck and then that's it. I think that would be very intriguing to try and do that. I have a whole mess of material that I've been calling a solo album. And it may still be. The other option would be to spend the next eight months or so working on material with Stevie and doing some sort of epic FM album. So I don't know. There are some options out there, and we're still looking at them. But the music I have right now, is the best that I've ever done on my own, or with Fleetwood Mac, tapping into some new areas. It becomes a little less important what you call it, the older you get. I can't tell you whether that will come out as a solo album or not. We have some options and they're all pretty good.

Is there a timeframe for the material to be produced?
I have to decide this week whether this is a solo album or not. And if you talk to the critics they'll say, put it out, what are you doing, why wouldn't you want to put it out? And if you talk to people at the record company, it depends on what your priorities are, so it's kind of scary. Not that I put solo albums out there to fail, they're for the people who want to hear that sort of thing. But the climate out there now is, God love people like Eminem , who are really doing something great. But the pop side of things, the Britney Spears sound and all of that, even though it's well-crafted, it's just a tough climate to try and think that you could really get through to a lot of people as a solo artist at age fifty. In that sense the Fleetwood Mac idea enables you to get through to a lot more people so I have to just weigh just how important or unimportant this is yet.

Interview with Stevie Nicks in Totally Adult,
where her thoughts were known regarding the release of Lindsey's new album

What have you heard about Lindsey's next record?
He has a double-album and he's in the midst of making a decision whether or not he wants to turn it around and make it into a Fleetwood Mac record. He's got way too many songs for one record, so even if he puts a record out, he's still gonna have another 15 songs left that aren't chopped-liver songs. So we don't really know exactly what he's gonna do yet.

And you know Lindsey, he's worse than me moving furniture, he changes stuff constantly. That artist thing, when you have to say, I'm done, is hard for him.

So anyway, I really don't know exactly what he's gonna do, but he's very much thinking about it right now. I mean, Tango In The Night was [going to be] a solo record and he decided to flip it to a Fleetwood Mac record. And we're all behind him, we just want him to do whatever will make him happy. I'm gonna be gone for a year, so we really can't start this until the end of this year. So even though I did give Lindsey 17 songs, who knows? What I basically feel, Jim, is that there's a good feeling around everything, so I'm not worried about anything.

Date - May 2001

Information from VH-1 regarding Lindsey's
Behind The Music
posted on The Penguin Website

It took me a little while to confirm this but Lindsey's BTM has been pulled from VH1's schedule at this point. The show is completely finished but there is no air date anymore. My source at VH1 said the reason is, and I quote, "the likely reason for the delay is VH1 is waiting for Lindsey to release his album." Unfortunately, of course, we have no clue when (or even 'if') that will be. I wish I had better news to report. (Thanks to Marty Adelson for posting)

Date - 14th July 2001

07/06/00 - New Lindsey Songs #2
There are three Lindsey songs, under which one new song, in the new Imax theatre movie "Adventures in Wild California". Through a myriad of exciting and touching personal stories, the film reveals how the wild lifestyles of California culture are influenced by the untouched California wilderness that surrounds them. The songs which you can hear in the movie are "Go Your Own Way", "Steal Your Heart Away" and the new song (probably) called "Twisted Fate".
