Treason 5:00 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes: I made a mistake in buying my ticket too close for this one. The last time I attended a show at The Michigan Theater was 10 years ago seeing Brian Wilson. I remember the acoustics being very poor (even halfway back), so I had the idea to buy a ticket as close to the stacks as I could. Well, this ended up backfiring. From my memory, row C should have been perfect but it ended up being the actual 2nd row on the right side. The right stack in front of me was raised on the stage but because everybody sat down (during the majority of the concert, more on that later), the best sound was going clear over my head. I had to point both mics to the right (on my hat mount) as I wouldn't have been able to see Lindsey looking up towards the speaker stack. So, the balance was slightly off, which was corrected in post. On top of all of this, I had 3 ushers to my immediate right watching me and the rest of the crowd for cellphone video. They were walking over and warning anyone who would try to take video. This made me a little uneasy as I was recording the entire show directly in front of them. Im just glad I used my smaller DPA4060's for this one. The CA14's or AT853's would have been spotted. During "Holiday Road", the entire crowd stood and the sound does improve at this moment and remains this way for the rest of the show. I ran a different EQ from this point on as the sound really did change. If we stood the entire set, this would have been OK, but because my seat was too close for a seated show, I feel like I failed to an extent. Well, I guess you can't win 'em all! I did my best. I ended up raising some levels here and there (especially during the solo acoustic numbers as well as when he spoke) to improve the playback. I then normalized the entire wave to 100%. I also ran a the click pop eliminator in Adobe Audition during the loud solo clapper behind me (which was between almost every song). He's still in there, but the spikes are much, much lower now. Well, with all of that said, Lindsey Buckingham put on an incredible set. It was amazing being that close and watching him perform. I wont ever soon forget it. I may have a less than stellar audio recording to remember it by, but I was *this* close to one of the all-time greats. Fair trade. On a final note, I had put aside $200 to see Fleetwood Mac earlier this year & ended up saving more than half of it seeing LB instead. No complaints. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more information on Lindsey Buckingham, please visit: https://rhino.warnermusic.com/lbsite/
