Christine McVie enjoyed a wild ride as a member of Fleetwood Mac<\/a>, but nowadays the retired rocker prefers a quiet life out of the spotlight. In a new interview, the legendary singer and songwriter shares her fond and not-so-fond memories of the past, and says she has no problem with her former bandmates moving on without her.<\/p>\n

McVie looks back on the landmark album \u2018Rumours\u2019 in a rare public interview with Mojo<\/a> magazine. Released in February of 1977, the album spawned a string of commercial hits including \u2018Don\u2019t Stop,\u2019 \u2018The Chain\u2019 and \u2018Dreams.\u2019 McVie contributed \u2018You Make Loving Fun,\u2019 \u2018Don\u2019t Stop,\u2019 \u2018Oh Daddy\u2019 and \u2018Songbird,\u2019 but she recalls that her rocky relationship with ex-husband John McVie<\/a>, as well as the strain between Lindsey Buckingham<\/a> and Steve Nicks<\/a>, made for a stressful situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cJohn and I have long since made friends, and I\u2019m sure Stevie and Lindsey have as well. But I am often still flabbergasted at how the hell we managed to make [the album] in the first place,\u201d McVie says incredulously. \u201cBut that was what tied us together \u2014 we knew that the music was good. The chemistry was such that we brought the best out in each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, McVie acknowledges that the group\u2019s crazy, drug-fueled antics impacted the recording sessions. \u201cThey were<\/em> wild days,\u201d she admits. \u201cI can\u2019t deny there was a lot of lunacy in the studio. But Stevie and I rented a condominium in Sausalito to get away from all of that. It was the boys who all stayed at the Record Plant house. So that\u2019s where all the madness was happening.\u201d<\/p>\n

The musician still enjoys the music on \u2018Rumours\u2019 after all these years. \u201cIt was a real pleasure to listen to it again,\u201d she states. \u201cI\u2019ve had it lying around but not listened to it for years. It\u2019s like if you live next door to Buckingham Palace, you don\u2019t go and look at it every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

McVie departed Fleetwood Mac in 1998, returned to her native England and has since kept a very low profile. She has seen her old band in concert a few times since, though she has steadfastly not joined them onstage. \u201cI have a really good time when I go. I can stand at the sound board and watch them sweat,\u201d she says with a laugh. \u201cThey do my songs, \u2018Don\u2019t Stop\u2019 and \u2018World Turning,\u2019 but they are limited to what they can do of mine. I think they tried \u2018You Make Loving Fun,\u2019 but I don\u2019t think the sound of their vocals were right. But I wish them well.\u201d<\/p>\n

McVie appears to have no future plan to return to music, and she says she has shelved any plans she once had of opening a restaurant, which was part of her intent when she left the group. \u201cI didn\u2019t open a restaurant but I did go to a few cooking schools,\u201d she says, adding, \u201cIt was too much like hard work!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
