{"id":2989,"date":"2015-06-16T09:51:00","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T08:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fleetwoodmac-uk.com\/wp\/?p=2989"},"modified":"2022-10-02T13:13:15","modified_gmt":"2022-10-02T12:13:15","slug":"fleetwood-mac-rebound-from-illness-to-close-isle-of-wight-festival-utimate-classic-rock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fleetwoodmac-uk.com\/wp\/fleetwood-mac-rebound-from-illness-to-close-isle-of-wight-festival-utimate-classic-rock\/","title":{"rendered":"Fleetwood Mac Rebound From Illness to Close Isle of Wight Festival | Utimate Classic Rock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"the_author\">By\u00a0<a title=\"Jeff Giles\" href=\"http:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/author\/jeffgiles\/\">Jeff Giles<\/a><\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"the_date\">June 16, 2015 9:51 AM<\/span><\/p>\n<h1>Fleetwood Mac have had to cancel some shows due to illness lately, but they didn\u2019t name their latest tour On With the Show for nothing: In spite of rampant speculation that they\u2019d be no-shows for their headlining slot at the Isle of Wight festival yesterday, the band took the stage and \u2014 by all accounts \u2014 delivered a triumphant set.<\/h1>\n<div class=\"epyt-video-wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\"  style=\"display: block; margin: 0px auto;\"  id=\"_ytid_92804\"  width=\"474\" height=\"267\"  data-origwidth=\"474\" data-origheight=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PniCnsK2ajY?enablejsapi=1&#038;autoplay=0&#038;cc_load_policy=0&#038;cc_lang_pref=&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;loop=0&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;playsinline=0&#038;autohide=2&#038;theme=dark&#038;color=red&#038;controls=1&#038;disablekb=0&#038;\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  epyt-is-override  no-lazyload\" title=\"YouTube player\"  allow=\"fullscreen; accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><em>NME<\/em> reports on the scene, starting with the cancellation of Mac gigs in Birmingham and Manchester prior to the festival, and describing the mix of anticipation and worry that ran through the crowd up until the moment the band took the stage.<\/p>\n<p>A no-show would have been a disaster for festival organizer John Giddings, who admitted to the <em>London Evening Standard<\/em> that Fleetwood Mac were the \u201cjewel in the crown\u201d for this year\u2019s lineup. \u201cGetting them was a fantastic result. I\u2019d approached them repeatedly and they hadn\u2019t had much interest in it,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey said they weren\u2019t keen on playing in the open air, but they spoke to Tom Petty and the Kings of Leon, who said they had a great time at the festival. They managed to convince them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As you can see from the fan-shot footage above, Fleetwood Mac had no trouble running through a 20-song set that included a healthy selection of their greatest hits \u2014 and was punctuated with small asides from the stage such as the moment when Stevie Nicks dedicated the evening\u2019s performance of \u201cLandslide\u201d to Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, saying, \u201cFalling offstage, getting up and playing a two-and-a-half-hour set. I think that\u2019s awesome.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The band still has plenty of dates left to get through before the tour is done, and while they earned rave reviews for their Isle of Wight appearance, bassist John McVie echoed sentiments recently expressed by his fellow Fleetwood Mac vets when he told <em>Mojo<\/em> that he feels like the end might be near for the group. \u201cHow much longer can the Mac be a working band? Not much longer, for me anyway,\u201d he warned. \u201cIt\u2019s not the music \u2013 it\u2019s the peripherals, the traveling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Joking that drummer Mick Fleetwood will \u201cgo on until they put him up against the wall and shoot him,\u201d McVie expressed incredulity that the band remains such a popular draw. \u201cI do flash on it, what must I f\u2014ing look like, this old fart up there,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut I look out and there\u2019s kids, and kids on their shoulders now, and they all seem to be having a good time.
