Stevie Nicks to Release New Album “24 Karat Gold — Songs from the Vault” in October

Stevie Nicks hinted earlier this year that she might release some older songs that had never seen the light of day.  Now, she’s making good on that tease: her new album 24 Karat Gold — Songs from the Vault is due October 7

10514512_811854445505734_5162143947030131567_nAccording to Stevie, the album features mostly songs written between 1969 and 1987, with two that were written in 1994 and 1995.  “Each song is a lifetime.  Each song has a soul.  Each song has a purpose. Each song is a love story,” she says in a statement. “They represent my life behind the scenes, the secrets, the broken hearts, the broken-hearted and the survivors. These songs are the memories — the 24 karat gold rings in the blue box. These songs are for you.”

The artwork for the album includes never-before-seen Polaroid photos taken by Stevie throughout her career.

24 Karat Gold — Songs from the Vault is available for pre-order starting August 5.  That same day, Stevie will debut her new, official Instagram account, StevieNicksOfficial, where she’ll begin previewing snippets of the music.

In addition, a limited edition double vinyl version of 24 Karat Gold — Songs from the Vault will come out September 29.  Also available will be a Deluxe Photobook CD, which will include two bonus tracks, as well as 48 pages of exclusive photos from Stevie’s personal collection.

Stevie and Fleetwood Mac will hit the road for their On with the Show tour — featuring the return of Christine McVie — starting September 30 in Minneapolis.

Stevie Nicks may have spent much of 2013 touring with Fleetwood Mac and celebrating the 35th anniversary of the group’s landmark LP Rumours, but the frontwoman still found time to record a solo LP. 24 Karat Gold — Songs from the Vault will see release on October 7th via Warner Bros, though vinyl lovers will be able to pick up a limited edition double LP a week earlier starting September 29th.

The LP follows Nicks’ 2011 solo effort, In Your Dreams, and was produced by herself, Dave Stewart and guitarist Waddy Wachtel. Recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles, 24 Karat Gold comprises songs that Nicks wrote primarily between 1969 and 1987, plus two that were penned in 1994 and 1995. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Nicks said she was inspired to reimagine these older tracks after stumbling across a slew of the original bootlegs on YouTube. “[W]e found all the songs that, somehow, were taken from my house or picked up or loaned out or whatever,” she said, adding: “I call them my 24 karat gold songs.”

In a statement, Nicks said: “Each song is a lifetime. Each song has a soul. Each song has a purpose. Each song is a love story. They represent my life behind the scenes, the secrets, the broken hearts, the broken hearted and the survivors. These songs are the memories — the 24 karat gold rings in the blue box. These songs are for you.”

The 24 Karat artwork will feature never-before-seen Polaroids taken by Nicks throughout her career, while the deluxe photobook CD boasts 48 pages of pictures from her private collection alongside two bonus tracks. Pre-orders for 24 Karat start on August 5th, and that same day, Nicks will begin previewing the album on her official new Instagram account.

Along with the release of 24 Karat, Nicks’ fall will be dominated by another Fleetwood Mac tour, this one reuniting the group with keyboardist and singer Christine McVie, who left the band in 1998. The On With the Show tour kicks off on Tuesday, September 30th in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Target Center and wraps up 34 shows later on December 20th at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Tampa Bay, Florida.

The most interesting narrative of Fleetwood Mac — one every music writer hopes to chronicle and every fan dreams about when reading between the lines of “Rumours” — involves romance and adultery. The stories behind lyrics of heartbreak and betrayal and love and acceptance are well-documented, but in recent interviews with Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie, the bandmates assert that the past is just that.

Fleetwood Mac released its best-selling album “Rumours” nearly 40 years ago; Christine McVie left the band 16 years ago. Now, the five members have reunited for an album and an international tour, “On With The Show.”

“It’s been the most profound experience of my entire life,” Christine McVie said of returning to the group in an interview with HuffPost Entertainment. “The chemistry between the band is stronger than it ever was.” In March of this year, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie joined Buckingham and Christine McVie at Studio D in the Village Recorder in Los Angeles, where they made 1979’s “Tusk.” (Nicks was unable to be there due to prior scheduling conflicts, Buckingham and McVie said.) They laid the groundwork for eight tracks, mostly written by Christine McVie and began to reestablish the legacy and future of Fleetwood Mac. It’s proving to be a very busy year for the legendary Stevie Nicks. Not only is she about to head out on tour with a reunited Fleetwood Mac, but she’s also in the midst of finishing up her own new solo album.

Tentatively titled “24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault,” Nicks’ forthcoming collection includes lost and stray tracks that she’s written and recorded through the years, but never made it onto an album. The selections for “24 Karat Gold” were all newly recorded, and co-produced by Nicks, Dave Stewart and Waddy Wachtel.

Nicks’ publicist, Liz Rosenberg, says that Nicks hopes to release the album in October on Reprise/Warner Bros. Records. She recently recorded the “24 Karat” tunes in Nashville, and will continue working on the album in Los Angeles.  Continue reading Stevie Nicks Preps New ’24 Karat Gold’ Album | Billboard

Her fear gone, Christine McVie’s muse soars with Fleetwood Mac reunion | L.A Times

Christine McVie eases comfortably into the corner of a leather sofa, about a foot between her and Lindsey Buckingham. He leans forward and side by side, they listen to the playback of “Too Far Gone,” a danceable new Fleetwood Mac song they’ve written together over the last few weeks at a West Los Angeles recording studio.

“This was a great collaboration,” Buckingham said. “I had a track without any singing on it, and she wrote the song over it.”

“We’ve been doing that quite a bit lately, haven’t we?” McVie said. Continue reading Her fear gone, Christine McVie’s muse soars with Fleetwood Mac reunion | L.A Times

Just Like Magic, Stevie Nicks Reappears In Your Dreams

Huffington Post

This must be the Season of the Witch.

Not only did the brilliantly warped minds behind American Horror Story, Ryan and Murphy and Brad Falchuk, create a Coven of them for Season 3, but they also made the witchiest woman of them all part of it.

And Stevie Nicks couldn’t be more delighted. Her summation of the role: “I’ve never done anything like it in my entire life.”

The hippest witch since Samantha Stephens, Nicks doesn’t have to twitch her nose to make things happen. The wild heart of Fleetwood Mac, who cast a magical spell with her beguiling presence, dreamy tunes and seductive voice that’s also one of the most romantic ever to rock your world, is a powerful force again.

On a season when character Misty Day professes her undying love for Stevie Nicks and her music that weaves its way into the series, the original rock goddess will appear during the closing episodes of Coven.

Saying she is now officially “part of a secret society,” after filming her part just before Thanksgiving, Nicks teased, “I can’t tell you a thing. … My lips are sealed.” But as enchanting as Nicks remains at the age of 65, it seemed likely the ethereal wordsmith would be more like an open book than a locked diary during this interview that touched on the current status of Fleetwood Mac, her plans for the future, the otherworldly hit FX show and her childhood fascination with witches.

11209572624_b7a9e6f862On the phone from her lovely home in Los Angeles on December 3, Nicks didn’t need a broomstick to enjoy a thrill ride while promoting the DVD of her film documentary In Your Dreams, which was released earlier that day.

The experience, which captures the making of her album of the same name in 2011 with producer, multi-instrumentalist, co-songwriter and co-kindred spirit Dave Stewart, was “magical,” Nicks said. Continue reading Just Like Magic, Stevie Nicks Reappears In Your Dreams

Film chronicles the making of her seventh album

Stevie Nicks will release what’s being billed as an “intimate” documentary, titled In Your Dreams, on December 3rd. The film will chronicle the making of the Fleetwood Mac singer’s 2011 solo album, In Your Dreams – a period she has called “the greatest year of my life.” When it was released, In Your Dreams was Nicks’ first album in a decade, and it featured several songs cowritten and coproduced by Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart. Stewart also co-produced and co-directed the documentary.

The film will be available in different configurations, one of which – the limited-edition deluxe DVD bundle – comes with a copy of the film signed by Nicks, a limited-edition handwritten letter by Nicks and never-before-seen photos. It is currently sold out. Fans seeking an autograph, however, can attend a DVD signing at Barnes and Noble at the Grove in Hollywood on December 4th at 7:00 pm.

The documentary shines a light on Nicks’s personal life, according to a press release, and shows her writing songs, tap-dancing and attending costume parties and feasts. It’s said to include cameos by Mick Fleetwood, Reese Witherspoon and, quizzically, Edgar Allan Poe, as well as a white stallion, owls and “vampires” who appear in “home video–style music videos.” Lastly, it also includes a look at previously unseen seen pictures of Nicks’s childhood and several candid photos taken over the past 35 years. Mick Fleetwood: Excess all areas

The Sunday Times
18th Aug 2013
Matt Munday

Mick Fleetwood has survived nearly 50 years in rock’s most dysfunctional band, Fleetwood Mac. Now they’re back on the road

stg18fleetwood5_362983a

Mick Fleetwood looks like a bohemian Santa with his bushy white beard, pastel shirt, black waistcoat and flat cap. Not all his tales from the rock’n’roll frontline are as jolly as his appearance, though. At one point he has to choke back tears of regret. He has lived a life of such abandon that he admits he is lucky to still be here. “I’ve inherited some good genes,” he explains.

It is often reported that Fleetwood put $8m of cocaine up his nose, and though this is an exaggeration, he says, if he hadn’t stopped consuming the drug so vigorously “the next stop would have been a wooden box”. His former bandmate in Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie, had earlier told me that the men in the band used to rack out lines of coke like “blooming great rails” – whereas she and Stevie Nicks, the female contingent, would restrict themselves to “ladylike” portions, carried around their necks in jeweled buckles that had dainty silver spoons inside. “It was the 1970s,” she shrugged. “There was a lot going around.”

“I’m not advocating cocaine at all, but the truth is, I had a good time,” says Fleetwood. “But then, without realising it, you’re getting too out of it. You’re sleeping for three days, or you’re up for nine days or whatever. And eventually you don’t feel good at any time.” Continue reading Mick Fleetwood: Excess all areas

Brit Music: Lindsey Buckingham

Anglotopia.com
July 29, 2013 By

Fleetwood Mac released their first new material in a decade in the form of their imaginatively-titled extended play, “Extended Play.” And if Lindsey Buckingham is any indication, there will be more to come.

Quote Buckingham: “It’s safe to say there is more than these four songs that you’re going to hear from Fleetwood Mac. It’s just a question of how and when, you know? When I was growing up, EPs were all over the place. When I was growing up, albums were not really an art form; the single was the thing, and in some ways it has gotten back to that a little bit. The whole thing is just kind of wide open now, and it really is tantalising to be able to put together just a few things, three or four songs on an EP. There is something quite effective about that, for sure. I have no preconceptions one way or the other in terms of what Fleetwood Mac will do or even what Fleetwood Mac should do. You just do what you can do and what makes sense logically – and politically.Buckingham continued to insist that Christine McVie, who hasn’t been part of the group since 1998, will not rejoin, but she did spend time at a dinner in LA.

Quote Buckingham: “It was a trip, because she was the same old person I’d always known, and she was cracking me up. We’d always had just a great chemistry, the two of us, and we just kind of hit the ground running as soon as I saw her, which was kind of amazing. If she wants to come up and do ‘Don’t Stop’ with us when we’re in England, I’d love to see that. But beyond that I think there’s not too much you can make out of it – although I’m sure people will try.”
