Release of Stevie Nicks albums on vinyl, though you may never know…

Vinyl editions of Stevie Nicks’ ‘Street Angel’ album from 1994 and ‘Trouble In Shangri-La’ album from 2001 were released on 26 January 2024 in the UK, this is the first ever time that standalone editions of these albums that have been made available outside of the career-spanning set ‘Complete Studio Albums And Rarities‘ that was released in limited quantities last year, however you may never know of these releases….

There has been no press release, no social media announcements, nothing posted on official websites and nothing from Rhino or Dig about these releases, I assume that these releases are limited to the UK for now and that announcements will be made for an international release later, but maybe not!
[edit] On further review, it seems as though releases are packaged up as part of Rhino’s ‘Start You Ear Off Right 2024‘ campaign, the albums from Stevie are also available in North America and Europe.

So, to try and make up for the lack of announcements, here is what we know….

The two albums went on sale on Friday 26 January on the UK and are available from independent record shops and are listed on Amazon UK on the affiliated links below:

Music Review: 50 Years – Don’t Stop from Fleetwood Mac

A new career-defining set from Fleetwood Mac that spans their 50-year existence, released in multiple formats on Nov 16th, 2018.

This career spanning collection from Fleetwood Mac has been released as a single CD, three-CD set, 5-LP vinyl set, digital download and streaming edition and is a fine collection of songs that make up the career of Fleetwood Mac from the blues era of the late 60s, to the transition period of the early 70s, the later adult orientated rock era of the late 70s and 80s, to the final set of songs that make up the swansong of the band’s recording output. Each album is represented on this set, including one song from the  2013’s ‘Extended Play‘ release.

The set is chronological in sequence except for the streaming edition (of which I will cover off later in the piece) and most tracks have been remastered for this collection and sound extremely nice and bright. The highlighted of this set for me is the single mix of ‘Fireflies’ and the first-ever physical release of ‘Sad Angel’ from the 2013 ‘Extended Play‘ release, whereas most other tracks have been made available in remastered form on recent deluxe editions of Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, Tusk, Mirage and Tango In The Night, special mention should be made for the early to mid 70s songs that have also been remastered and should appeal to casual observers of the band who would not be familiar with these tracks. Music Review: Solo Anthology – The Best of Lindsey Buckingham

Great reflection on a long and impressive solo career outside of the confines of Fleetwood Mac

This fantastic set of songs from Lindsey Buckingham’s solo career (1981 to present) provides an impressive array of musical talents and styles from the creative musical genius of the Rumors-era Fleetwood Mac that deserves to have a place in your record collection. Lindsey’s often overlooked solo career has included six impressive solo albums and three live albums that are covered well within this anthology set.

Two impressive unreleased songs are also included that were in contention for the aborted final Fleetwood Mac album that continues to show that Lindsey has the ability to still craft a very good pop/soft rock track. The set is concluded with a great live collection of songs from recent live solo tours that includes his best known Fleetwood Mac songs.

It is a wonder to me how this accomplished musician had not reached a wider audience, but I strongly recommend that you pick up this anthology set and see what you have been missing, be prepared to be very much impressed.

This review was for the three-CD deluxe anthology set (that has the same track list as the 6 LP vinyl set), not the single CD release and has been published on Amazon UK and the iTunes UK Music Store,

UPDATED: Is Stevie Nicks damaging the Fleetwood Mac legacy?

group-tuskpresskit

Will Fleetwood Mac release a new studio album?
Will Stevie Nicks join the band in recording the album?
Will Stevie Nicks tour again with Fleetwood Mac?
Is there a future for Fleetwood Mac?

So many questions, all without any real answers from the band, other than that Stevie Nicks is touring her 2014 album “24 Karat Gold: Songs From The Vault” making up time she gave to Fleetwood Mac for the “On With The Show” that brought Christine McVie back into Fleetwood Mac.

However, the rest of the band (well that is not technically accurate as John McVie does not generally say anything to the press) have been talking about recording new music for a new potential Fleetwood Mac studio album and the possibility of another worldwide tour that is likely to be scheduled to co-incide with the 40th anniversary of Rumours, as well as the 50th anniversary of the band being formed and the 30th anniversary of Tango In The Night and 20th anniversary of The Dance (Fleetwood Mac seems to have a thing for years with seven in them!!)

But, Stevie Nicks appears not to be committing to the band, is she about to splinter the group and force a Fleetwood, McVie, McVie and Buckingham version of the band to cement their legacy and exploit the huge commercial opening that will begin next year when the anniversary year for Fleetwood Mac commences, this will likely  be the last hurrah for the band  before old father time chimes in. Book Review: Gold Dust Woman: The Biography of Stevie Nicks

Enjoyed this book and completed it in a few days over the Christmas / New Year period whilst free from work duties.

The book was thorough and covered Stevie Nicks’ life in detail up to the year 2017 and covered a few items that I was not aware of, however, the author as an experienced writer that has written books on other members of Fleetwood Mac and other musical figures the fact-checking here was not very good, which makes me wonder if anything that I did not already know about Stevie’s life is actually accurate.

It is a shame as this book had the potential to be the definitive biography of Stevie Nicks (until she decides to write her own autobiography) but the fact-checking and errors really let this down, so near yet so far Mr Davis, please review with your editors in more detail before completing your next book as these errors really let you and the book down.

As a recommendation, I would say this book is good and thorough, but for a recent book on the life of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac I would refer anyone to Mick Fleetwood’s recent memoir ‘Play On‘ that was released in 2014, at least you know that much of the content is accurate, or as accurate as Mick remembers, and of course he was there!

WHAT IF: Lindsey Buckingham “Out Of The Cradle” (expanded deluxe edition)

Imagine you are working at Rhino and you have been given the project to curate an expanded and deluxe re-release of Out Of The Cradle by Lindsey Buckingham.

Whilst in this dream state, listed below is the content that I would add that has been culled from various releases throughout the years, the media would be a combination of CDs, Vinyl and Blu-Ray DVD as per the recent Fleetwood Mac deluxe sets…

Please note for anyone reading this, this post is a what-if, this release is neither planned nor scheduled. Continue reading WHAT IF: Lindsey Buckingham “Out Of The Cradle” (expanded deluxe edition)
