September 2013, and Stevie Nicks is about to perform Landslide at the O2 in London, where Fleetwood Mac are playing three nights. Before she does, though, she has a dedication to make. “This is for my mentor. Big sister. Best friend,” she says, and there are precious few people in the venue who don’t know she’s talking about Christine McVie, her fellow female bandmate and the Mac’s keyboard player, as well as one of its singers and songwriters from 1970 until she quit in 1998. Just Like Magic, Stevie Nicks Reappears In Your Dreams

This must be the Season of the Witch.

Not only did the brilliantly warped minds behind American Horror Story, Ryan and Murphy and Brad Falchuk, create a Coven of them for Season 3, but they also made the witchiest woman of them all part of it.

And Stevie Nicks couldn’t be more delighted. Her summation of the role: “I’ve never done anything like it in my entire life.”

The hippest witch since Samantha Stephens, Nicks doesn’t have to twitch her nose to make things happen. The wild heart of Fleetwood Mac, who cast a magical spell with her beguiling presence, dreamy tunes and seductive voice that’s also one of the most romantic ever to rock your world, is a powerful force again.

On a season when character Misty Day professes her undying love for Stevie Nicks and her music that weaves its way into the series, the original rock goddess will appear during the closing episodes of Coven.

Saying she is now officially “part of a secret society,” after filming her part just before Thanksgiving, Nicks teased, “I can’t tell you a thing. … My lips are sealed.” But as enchanting as Nicks remains at the age of 65, it seemed likely the ethereal wordsmith would be more like an open book than a locked diary during this interview that touched on the current status of Fleetwood Mac, her plans for the future, the otherworldly hit FX show and her childhood fascination with witches.

11209572624_b7a9e6f862On the phone from her lovely home in Los Angeles on December 3, Nicks didn’t need a broomstick to enjoy a thrill ride while promoting the DVD of her film documentary In Your Dreams, which was released earlier that day.

Stevie Nicks’ ‘In Your Dreams’ Documentary Due in December

Film chronicles the making of her seventh album

Stevie Nicks will release what’s being billed as an “intimate” documentary, titled In Your Dreams, on December 3rd. The film will chronicle the making of the Fleetwood Mac singer’s 2011 solo album, In Your Dreams – a period she has called “the greatest year of my life.” When it was released, In Your Dreams was Nicks’ first album in a decade, and it featured several songs cowritten and coproduced by Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart. Stewart also co-produced and co-directed the documentary.

The film will be available in different configurations, one of which – the limited-edition deluxe DVD bundle – comes with a copy of the film signed by Nicks, a limited-edition handwritten letter by Nicks and never-before-seen photos. It is currently sold out. Fans seeking an autograph, however, can attend a DVD signing at Barnes and Noble at the Grove in Hollywood on December 4th at 7:00 pm.

The documentary shines a light on Nicks’s personal life, according to a press release, and shows her writing songs, tap-dancing and attending costume parties and feasts. It’s said to include cameos by Mick Fleetwood, Reese Witherspoon and, quizzically, Edgar Allan Poe, as well as a white stallion, owls and “vampires” who appear in “home video–style music videos.” Lastly, it also includes a look at previously unseen seen pictures of Nicks’s childhood and several candid photos taken over the past 35 years. ‘The white witch lives!’ Stevie Nicks to guest star as sorceress on American Horror Story: Coven

She crafted an ethereal, mystical persona as the shawl-twirling frontwoman of Fleetwood Mac.

And Stevie Nicks will make her acting debut as the ‘White Witch’ on an upcoming episode of American Horror Story: Coven.

Series creator Ryan Murphy made the announcement on his Twitter page Tuesday, writing: ‘Guess who’s visiting the Coven? The legendary Stevie Nicks!’

The 65-year-old rock goddess – born Stephanie – was already a major source of inspiration for the show’s necromancer witch, Misty Day.

Lily Rabe, who plays Misty, is just as obsessed with the eight-time Grammy nominee as her ethereal character.

‘If I meet her, I actually think I might die on the spot,’ the 31-year-old actress told Entertainment Weekly.

‘I don’t get that crazy about a lot of people. I’m usually pretty cool, calm, and collected. But I don’t know if could behave properly. It’s been 35 years since Fleetwood Mac ‘ s seminal album ‘Rumours’ was released, setting in amber the band’s place in rock’n’roll history. But as they prepare to play their first gigs in the UK in fouryears this week , Fleetwood Mac have never been more relevant. It’s impossible not to feel the impact their formula of heart-trodden lyrics swathed in glossy soft rock is still having on the music scene. Last year, Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo, Mascis, MGMT, Tame Impala and Lykke Li were all lining up to appear on a Mac tribute album. Haim frequently drop ‘Oh Well’ into their sets, and Mumford & Sons regularly close theirs with ‘The Chain’.

This week, for the first time since she left in 1998, the group’s former vocalist  Christine McVie —who penned Mac classics including ‘Don’t Stop’ and ‘Songbird’ —will come out of retirement to perform one songwith her former band at London’s 02 Arena. It’s the first time the full ‘Rumours’ line-up have performed together in 15 years, but not for lack of trying on the band’s part. Ahead of their sold-out show at Glasgow’s Hydro, we talk to Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks about touring, solo albums, Game of Thrones and her relationship with Prince.

Fleetwood Mac have been touring for much of the year – how’s it been?

“Great. But the last 15 shows in America were particularly gruelling. Shows got added so the routing was difficult – you’re in Canada, then you’re in Dallas, then you’re in Florida, then Portland. So it was very hard.

“We’d fly after the show most nights, a two-hour flight, then the drive to and from the airport. We all got terribly jet-lagged. But for me, it’s not such a big deal ’cause I stay up really late every night anyway. But for Lindsey [Buckingham] and Mick [Fleetwood] and John [McVie], they don’t stay up late – they go back to their rooms and go to sleep.'”

This is the first Fleetwood Mac tour since 2009…

“At the beginning of 2012 I told everyone I wouldn’t tour with the band that year, because I wanted to give [2011 solo album] In Your Dreams another year, because I thought it deserved it. And because I thought Fleetwood Mac should stay off the grid for three years.

“It’s a good idea; it’s just smart to keep us out of the spotlight for three years. Everyone went along with it. And now they all know it was really a great idea – because we were gone long enough that it was us coming back.

“I told the press last year that 2013 was going to be the year of Fleetwood Mac. And I was just hoping with all my heart that this big statement was gonna come true!”

The band released an iTunes EP earlier this year, which was recorded just after your mother died. Was that a difficult time for you?

“I didn’t go [to the studio]. I didn’t want to go. But it wasn’t just that – I didn’t want to go anywhere. I didn’t leave the house for almost five months.

“I worked on the edit of my documentary about the making of In Your Dreams. And then I got pneumonia. With my pneumonia and my mother’s death I watched the entire first season of Game Of Thrones – so that was great! Heroic drug abuse, physical violence, epic strops… Forget Rumours, Fleetwood Mac’s craziest album was Tango In The Night.

In December 2012, three members of Fleetwood Mac cried together. in public, at the memory of something that had happened all of 25 years previously. Singer Stevie Nicks, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and drummer Mick Fleetwood were doing a round of media interviews to announce the band’s 2013 tour when they were asked about the events of 1987, when Buckingham quit the band following the release of the album Tango In The Night. Buckingham did not respond directly to the interviewer. Instead he turned to Nicks and Fleetwood and reiterated his reasons for leaving the group at a critical stage of their career: foremost among them, his sense that Nicks and Fleetwood had lost their minds and souls to drugs.

“What Lindsey said in that interview was very moving, ” Fleetwood says. “He told us: ‘I just couldn’t stand to see you doing what you were doing to yourselves. Did you ever realise that? You were so out of control that it made me incredibly sad, and I couldn’t take it any more.’ It was really powerful stuff. This was someone saying: ‘I love you.’ It hit Stevie and me like a ton of bricks. ‘I TOLD the press last year that 2013 was going to be the year of Fleetwood Mac,” comes the nervous confession of Stevie Nicks, the band’s vocalist and songwriter. “I was just hoping with all my heart that this big statement was gonna come true!”

Certainly, the UK hasn’t made a liar out of Nicks who, at the age of 65, is about to embark on a headline trip around the country’s biggest arenas. Nor, in fact, has the rest of the world: the band’s biggest selling album, 1977’s Rumours, found itself nearing the top of several worldwide charts again this year – adding hundreds of thousands more sales to the 40m copies shifted since its release.

Nicks is still a blonde stunner, and it’s hard to believe she’s preparing to celebrate her 40th year with the group in 2014; in that same year, Fleetwood Mac – completed by Mick Fleetwood (drums), John McVie (bass) and Lindsey Buckingham (vocals, guitar) since the departure of Christine “Perfect” McVie in 1998 – will reach the grand age of 47. ‘I will go to my grave angry at that man’: Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks opens up about the psychiatrist she blames for ruining her chances of having a family

She was as famous for her drugs battle and rock and roll lifestyle as for her distinctive voice during the height of her fame with Fleetwood Mac.

And as Stevie Nicks returns on tour with the band, she reveals that she holds a 20-year grudge against the psychiatrist she claims prevented her from marrying and having children when he treated her for over eight years in her thirties.

The 65-year-old star accused her psychiatrist of being a gossip-hungry groupie who fed her high doses of valium to keep her coming back into his surgery.

Miss Nicks became addicted to cocaine for 10 years but following her treatment at the Betty Ford clinic in America in the 1980s she then started seeing a psychiatrist.
